Metro FM is a national radio station from South Africa that broadcasts urban contemporary music. This station is owned by the SABC and it broadcasts 24/7 on FM Stereo as well as the DStv Bouquet Channel 801.
The station was aired for the first time in October 1986, to compete with the currently non existing Radio Bop. Metro FM had a number of competitors over the years, such as Kaya FM and YFM, launched in mid/late 1990s and that took away some audience from Metro FM.
This station launched the careers of some radio celebrities including Bob Mabena, Shado Twala and Lawrence Dube.
