Bedtime Bible Stories for Adults

Friends, I know I say this all the time, but I'm so excited about this episode! I have been planning it ever since The Healing Power of Jesus episodes, so for THREE years! Tonight we cover some of the amazing miracles of Jesus that don't involve healing, but involve provision, creation, and His authority over the entire world--even nature. Two of my favorites are when Jesus calms the storm and when He walks on water. I've always struggled with fear, but the past couple of weeks have really tested me. And I'm trying to lean into these moments when Jesus asks His disciples, "Why were you afraid?" I want His peace... the one that can't be explained. I pray for that all the time. The first miracle is when Jesus turns the water into wine at the wedding of Cana. We have heard this one before in the episode called The Arrival of the Messiah, but I had to include it here as well. After all, it was His first miracle! I hope you enjoy. We are reading: John 2:1-11 - Water to Wine Luke 5:1-11 - The Catch of Fish Mark…

Tonight's episode is another combination of multiple episodes! It includes The Twins--Jacob and Esau, The Story of Jacob and Rachel, and Jacob Returns Home. One of the things that stands out to me about Jacob is thathe lied to and betrayed his own brother and father, and then later is betrayed by his uncle. I've always wondered why God allowed someone involved in so much deception to become the father of the 12 tribes of Israel. Adding to my list of questions for Him in heaven! We are reading Genesis 25, 26:34, and 27 through 33. One of our listeners, Franchesca, is a new campus ministerin the Philippines. She has been serving on campus for quite some time but just graduated last year. She is looking for individuals who will partner with her and support her in her mission field. She can be contacted at chesca.baylon@everynationcampus.org or you can directly send support athttps://www.everynation.org.ph/give/franchescabeck.baylon Thank you to Mary, Jon, Jeremy, Dave, Jill, DeAnne, Marie,Hope, Robert, Renee,…

Tonight we finish up the book of Revelation! In the last three chapters of Revelation, John sees the final defeat of evil, the judgment of all things, and the creation of a new heaven and a new earth! The darkness is gone, death is no more, and God dwells with His people. I got very emotional during this episode, mostly because of being sick for so long. And you will hear it. I did not correct it this time. I long for the day when God will wipe every tear from our eyes! There will be no more mourning or crying or pain! None of our friends or family will suffer anymore. We won't suffer. We will have new glorious bodies. Thank God! I cannot wait for that day. We are reading Revelation 20 through 22. Thank you to Kelly M., Matthew, Lisa, DeAnne, Toni, Jennifer C,, and Kelly A. for your support! And a special thank you to Pragya, Janice, Emmalee, Austin, Jennifer M., and Christopher for your generous donations! It helps more than you know and I thank God for you all. As we continue in Revelation chapters 17 through 19, John is shown the fall of Babylon, the triumph of heaven, and the best part... the victorious return of Jesus Christ! Here we see God's perfect justice and His faithfulness to fulfill His promises. Hallelujah! How I long for that day, as I know you all do as well. I still find myself struggling with the fear of the end of time and the fear of death itself. But I remind myself that as a Christian, we do not have to be afraid. Even so, God understands that we are human. He is ready to give us His perfect peace that passes all human understanding. I pray for this. We are reading Revelation 17 through 19. Only one part left after this one! Thank you to Jackie, Robert, Senganan, Ashlyann, Christina, Mary, Rose, Ruth, Tyler, and Chanda for your support! A special thank you Kim and Christopher for your generous donations. Well, according to the polls the majority of you felt ready to continue with Revelation! In Part 3, the focus shifts to the spiritual battle taking place behind the events of history. John sees visions of the woman, the dragon, the beasts, and the seven angels with their bowls. This is where the mark of the beast is mentioned. We don't need to be afraid--we just need to make sure we follow the commands of God and have the faith of Jesus. Then we will have the seal of God. These chapters remind us that God's victory is certain. We are reading Revelation 12 through 16. Thank you to Kenny, Edwina, Robert, DeAnne, Katelyn, and Christine! And a special thank you to Christopher and Lance! All of your support is so much appreciated. Reading Revelation again has definitely shifted my focus. In part 2, we encounter the opening of the seals and the sounding of the seven trumpets by seven angels. Do you see how much God loves the number seven? As you listen, if you find yourself becoming fearful, remind yourself that God does not give us a spirit of fear... but of power and love and self-discipline. The devil wants us to be afraid when we read Revelation. God wants us to be prepared. He is laying it out for us. Once again, I pray that we are ready. **I know these are heavy episodes. Please complete the survey to let me know if you want an "intermission" of sorts before we move on to part 3 and 4.** We are reading Revelation 6 through 11. Thank you to Darlene, Kelly, Winnie, Michelle, Theresa, and Robert! A special thank you to Christopher and Eleanor for their generous donations! Every donation helps. We have had many requests for the book of Revelation! It's such an important book--especially during these times. Revelation begins with a vision of Jesus given to the apostle John. In part one, Jesus speaks to His seven churches, asking them to remain faithful, and calling out their errors. The focus is not fear, but worship, endurance, and the authority of Christ over all things. Revelation says "Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near." Let us take these warnings seriously. We are reading Revelation 1 through 5. I want to thank Wilmarie, Jeff, Alicia, Dana, Mary, and Robert for your support of the podcast! And a special thank you to Christopher! If you have been blessed by this podcast and would like to show your support with a $1 donation, please go to paypal.me/hcharltoncrespin. I finally finished remastering all the Joseph episodes. This includes removing some background noise and slowing it down just a little. I had to laugh because this is such a long episode! One of my favorite stories from the Bible--such a great comeback story. God always has a plan and is always working behind the scenes. Even when times seem dark, we won't need to be afraid. His rod and his staff will comfort us. He doesn't give us the spirit of fear. He gives us power, love, and self-control! He longs for you to have peace. It's something I struggle with daily, but over and over again I have to put my trust in Him. The more you do it, the more natural it will become. We are reading Genesis 37 through 50 and Exodus 1:6-7. I want to thank Austin, Robert, Brian, Malcolm, DeAnne, Yee, John, Don, Darrin, and Lisa for their support of this podcast. A special thank you to Christopher for his generosity. If you have been blessed by this podcast and would like toshow your support with a $1 donation, please go to…

Part 2 of Hebrews (chapters 8 through 13), shifts from explaining who Jesus is to showing what His work means for us. These chapters highlight the new covenant. Jesus is our perfect High Priest who opened a better way to approach God, through His once-for-all sacrifice. And God's law is now written on our hearts and in our minds. Chapter 11 is commonly known as "the faith chapter." This one hit me hard. It starts off well but then gets difficult to read. So many before us risked their lives and suffered in order to further the gospel and the message of the love of Christ. The book ends with practical encouragement: hold fast, run with perseverance, and fix your eyes on Jesus. We are reading Hebrews 8 through 13. Thank you to Victoria, Anne, Babes on Boards, Jeff, Ellen, Colleen, Robin, Christina, Stephanie, and Scott for your support! A special thank you to Esther, Nancy, and Lori for your generous donations! If you have been blessed by this podcast and would like toshow your support with a $1 donation,…

We don't know for sure who wrote the books of Hebrews. Some suggestions include Paul, Barnabas, or Luke. Hebrews is a powerful encouragement to believers who were feeling tired and pressured in their faith. Its central message is simple but profound: Jesus is greater. Greater than angels, Moses, the priesthood, and the old covenant. Because of Him, we now have direct access to God and a better hope. The books calls us to hold fast, draw near to God, and keep going, even when faith feels difficult. Jesus is our high priest, and the perfect high priest, because he can sympathize with our every weakness. How amazing is that? We can go to Him with everything and He understands us. Thank God. We are reading Hebrews 1 through 7. Part 2 will include 8 through 13. Thank you to EyeKnowTutoring, Isaac, Abby, DeAnne, Melissa, Jamie, Monica, Laurie, and Matthew for your support! And a special thank you to Nancy, Christopher, and Tammerlee for your generosity! If you have been blessed by this podcast and would like to…

**Warning for this episode: self-harm** I hope you enjoy the FULL episode of the story of the prophet Elijah. Israel was in a dark time. The king, Ahab, had married a foreign princess named Jezebel, and together they led the nation away from the Lord. The people began worshiping Baal—a false god. Enter Elijah. God provides food for him during a famine, heraises a dead child to life, takes part in a showdown with the worshipers of Baal on Mount Carmel, and confronts king Ahab. Even with all these triumphs, he also has a moment of weakness and doubt—something we can all relate to. But hisstory reminds us that even when an entire nation turns away, God is able to work through one faithful person to call people back to the truth. We are reading 1 Kings 17, 18, 19 and 21, and 2 Kings 1 and2. Thank you to Anthony, Samantha, Robin, Kelli, Bridget, Michael, Renee, DeAnne, Sharmaine, Blankets of Love 912, Lydia, April, Amy F., Bradley, Hannah, Michelle, Austin, and John for your support! And a special thank you to…

Tonight's episode comes after the episode called The First King of Israel. Saul is king, and he and his son Jonathan are in a constant war with the Philistines. Here we learn that obedience is far better than sacrifice. Saul's disobedience to God eventually costs him and his lineage the kingdom. We are reading 1 Samuel 13 through 15 (NIV). Happy 2026! I apologize that it's been a while. You already know the story. Health, a full December and January, etc. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with friends and family. And for those of you experience sadness during the holidays, my prayers are with you. We are grieving the passing of my father-in-law. He is now resting in Jesus. He was a man of faith and will be missed. Tonight we are reading about the Good News! Salvation for ALL. Whether Jew or Gentile. Through a vision, God explains that all men are equal and have access to His beautiful free gift. If you have not already asked Jesus and the Holy Spirit into your heart, it only takes a quick, small prayer. "Lord, I accept your free gift of salvation. Please come into my heart and rule over my life. Amen." He is waiting to hear from you. We are reading Acts 9:32 through 11. In between new episodes I am working on remastering old episodes and getting them on YouTube. Recently I had also considered combining some episodes that were split into one longer episode, and one of you suggested it, too! When I am recording the episodes, it's a lot for my fatigue and shortness of breath, so sometimes I have to create them in multiple parts. Going back and combining them after the fact is much easier. I'm excited to do this for some of the longer stories, like Joseph and Moses. Tonight is one of my favorites to listen to when I am needing some encouragement. So while you are waiting for a new episode, I hope you enjoy the full episode of The Healing Power of Jesus. I had so much fun recording this episode! It's a new story for me which is always enjoyable. The story takes place right after the fall of Jericho (the episode titled "Rahab and the Scarlet Rope"). Joshua and the Israelites are up against Ai. (If I'm pronouncing Ai wrong, I sincerely apologize! It was the one I found when I searched that seemed the most accurate.) Someone is disobedient. And the Gibeonites are scared to death of the Israelites so they take drastic measures. We are reading Joshua 7 through 9 (NIV). Thank you for your patience, friends! October was a lot. I was in a flare, then my husband got sick (which added to my flare), among other things. But God is good and a new episode is here! I'm praying the next one doesn't take as long. We had a special request for another relaxing, peaceful episode, similar to the last one. I searched around, but landed again in Psalms. I wanted to take care of this one because the woman that requested will be having a baby soon! And wanted more episodes she could listen to that would help her during that time. I hope you enjoy and God bless you all. We are reading Psalms 16, 37, 42, 63, 84, 103, and 116 in the NIV. I really enjoyed all of these chapters, but especially 103 and 116.If you have felt blessed by this podcast and would like toshow your support with a $1 donation, please go to paypal.me/hcharltoncrespin. Friends... my heart is heavy. There have been so many senseless tragedies in the last few weeks. We know as believers that the world will get worse as we get closer to the end of time. We mourn, but we don't mourn as the rest of the world does. We keep the faith. The good news is this life is not the end. We all have the gift of eternal life, and all we have to do is accept it. Praise God for our Savior, JESUS. We reached a milestone of 50,000 followers since the last episode! God is working and people are being reached. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, comments, shares, and donations. They are such a blessing and motivation. I hope these chapters from Psalms will bring you some peace. The 23rd Psalm is my favorite and I often recite it to myself. We will fear no evil because God is with us! We are reading chapters 4, 23, 27, 34, 46, 62, 91, 121, and 139. All are read in the NIV except for chapter 23 which is read in NKJV. If you have felt blessed by this podcast and would like to show your support…

We have had a couple of requests for The Beatitudes which are at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount. This is one of Jesus' most famous sermons and I'm thrilled to share this episode. There is a lot to unpack. It includes the Lord's Prayer (I get emotional reading that!) and teachings on loving our enemies and not worrying about tomorrow. I think it's important to mention that some of the teachings are metaphorical. Jesus does not want you to gauge out your eye. He is emphasizing the importance of eternal salvation over anything else--over any earthly sins or desires we may have. Again, I'm so blessed and excited to share this episode. We were in need of some red lettered words from Jesus. Thank you, God. Amen. We are reading Matthew 5 through 7 in the NIV. (I use some NKJV wording for The Lord's Prayer because it is how I learned it.) We had a recent request for the book of Habakkuk, and interestingly enough, my devotional was recently about Habakkuk, and a pastor mentioned the prophet as well. I took it as a sign. A lot of us struggle with anxiety and trust, and the book of Habakkuk encourages us to rejoice in the Lord, trusting Him even when everything else fails or seems like it's going wrong. I wanted to mention that I try to prepare a new episode every two weeks, but because of my health struggles with chronic illness, I won't always make that personal goal. I don't like to overshare about my journey or make it about me, but my life is very different now than it was 3 years ago. I live in survival mode. There were times when I was recording that I had to stop because of shortness of breath and presyncope, and I would cry and ask God to let me finish the episode. God is so good and has given me progress and is helping me get answers! I've also had setbacks along the way. This podcast has given me a ministry and a purpose, and for that…

Proverbs has been a highly requested book. It is a collection of wise sayings and teachings meant to help people live with wisdom, kindness, and respect for God. Most of the proverbs were written by King Solomon, known for his great wisdom. I won't be reading through all of the book in a row, but this episode is covering the first 4 chapters. Solomon speaks like a father giving advice to his son. He encourages his son to listen, learn, and treasure wisdom. He warns about the dangers of following bad influences and explains how wisdom brings safety, peace, and a better life. In Ephesians chapters 4 through 6, we read practical instructions for how believers should live in response to God's grace. Key teachings include living with unity and love, putting of the "old self," Godly relationships, and the armor of God. This includes the famous instructions for husbands and wives. Tonight we have another highly requested reading--the book of Ephesians. There will be two parts. The first part covers chapters 1 through 3. Paul is writing a letter to the early Christian believers in the city of Ephesus. Paul begins by highlighting the incredible blessings that believers have in Christ. Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms out there, including "fur" moms and those longing to be moms. It is bittersweet tonight as we wrap up the amazing story of Job. God finally speaks and addresses Job and his friends. The ending will give you so much hope! Praise God that He makes all things new and works everything out for our good. At the beginning of the episode, I share a little bit about my Job season and one of my "whys." I became suddenly chronically ill at the very end of August 2022. It's been quite the journey and the scariest years of my life. I won't go into too much detail but I've been to the ER several times (for the first time in my life) and at times thought I was dying. Insomnia was one of numerous symptoms and I knew that the lack of sleep was preventing my healing. I started searching for Bible stories that I could fall asleep to, but I could never find exactly what I was looking for. I felt this tug on my heart (God) and this push, telling me that I should start my own. A few…

I hope you had a wonderful Good Friday and a blessed Resurrection Sunday! He is risen. Praise God. I can't believe we are on part 5 of the Story of Job. We only have one more episode after this one. In this episode, we hear from someone new--Elihu. Job has stopped speaking and his friends are also done with their opinions and "words of wisdom." Elihu is younger, but has much to share. He is not happy with Job or his three friends. We are reading Job 32 through 37. Part 4 begins with Job speaking again, followed by a response from his friend, Bildad. After that, Job shares his final words with his friends and his final defense. I imagine he is exhausted from trying to justify himself to his friends and calling out to God. My favorite chapter of this episode is chapter 26. Job describes God's powerful works as Creator of the universe. Then he says, "And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?" (Emphasis added.) What profound, impactful words. Gives me chills! We are reading Job chapters 23 through 31. There are two parts left! The book of Job is a long one, but full of raw and relatable thoughts. I've enjoyed getting a deeper look at the dialogue between Job and his friends. Job doesn't hold back! Many of you are also in your Job season like I am. Pray for wisdom, for strength, that we will learn quickly if God is trying to teach us something, and that God will use us... even while suffering. Let's thank Him for the story of Job, that allows us to see that greater things are coming! We are reading Job 15 through 22. Well, family... we are going to read the entire book of Job! In part 2 we will hear more dialogue between Job and his friends. Job feels very alone in his suffering and his friends are only upsetting him more. How frustrating! And I know many of you have felt that exact way before. The book of Job is very near and dear to my heart. The past two years of my life have been the hardest and scariest years I've ever experienced. Many times I told God I couldn't handle it anymore. I can relate to much of what Job says. For that reason, I'm so thankful that the book of Job was included in the Bible. When hard times come upon us, it's such a source of encouragement. God promises that the pain we are feeling now cannot compare to the joy that is coming. Praise God for that promise! We are reading Job 1 through 7. The people of Israel had God as their King, but they demanded an earthly one. The donkeys of a man named Kish went missing, and he sent his son, Saul, out to look for them. Sometimes God may send us on what may seem like a wild goose chase. But He ALWAYS has a plan. Listen to hear about the first king of Israel. We are reading 1 Samuel 8, 9, and 10 in the NIV version. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah may not have a very happy ending, but it has several important lessons. I mention one during the episode introduction. Another lesson was pointed out by my pastor this week. Once you choose Jesus... don't look back. "Remember Lot's wife" is a warning in Luke 17:32. We are reading from Genesis 13, 18, and 19. We finish up Galatians with chapters 4 through 6! Paul continues encouraging the people of Galatia to rely on faith in Jesus for their salvation instead of the law of Moses. He reminds them that they are children of Abraham and heirs to God's kingdom. He also lists out the desires of sinful nature, contrasted by the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Now he is writing to the church there about several topics, including circumcision and the true source of salvation--faith in the Messiah. We are reading Galatians 1 through 3. The past few weeks I've been able to return to church--praise God! I've been watching from home for two years because of my health. The last sermon's main verse was from the book of James. It really caught my attention and I knew in that instant that I wanted the next episode to be the book of James. There is a lot of good advice here, including suggestions for healing, which I have been considering. As always, thank you for your patience! We are reading the entire book of James. Tonight we continue on in the books of Acts. The apostles are spreading the good news and healing the sick, but they are met with opposition. They decide to appoint seven men to assist with some other duties. Stephen is one of those men. We do not get the typical happy ending with this story. I can't imagine going through what he did. Here we are also introduced to Saul who later becomes Paul. To continue the story, go to the episode called Saul of Tarsus. We are reading Acts 4:32 through 7. **Formerly known as The Twelve** I'm not sure why but I felt really encouraged to read the beginning of Acts about the disciples being sent out into the world to heal and preach about Jesus. Maybe it's because I've gotten so into The Chosen, which helped bring all of them to life. It's interesting that they didn't just stick with eleven apostles. Numbers mean something to God and twelve is seen quite a bit throughout the Bible. I speak some Spanish and years ago, when my husband and I were traveling in Colombia, we took an Uber to the airport. Our Uber driver turned out to be a Christian who was no longer attending church, but he expressed that he felt bad about having drifted away from God. We had just heard an amazing sermon on following God and being obedient, even if you don't necessarily have the WILL to do it. We may not always have the will, but what we do have is a CHOICE. We can choose to do the right thing, and then the will will follow. I explained this concept to him and the Spanish was fluently…

We have officially hit 50 episodes, and are returning to the book of Daniel--chapters 7 through 9--covering the first three visions. It may not be the most relaxing story... but it's definitely an important one. The books of Daniel and Revelation provide so much insight to the end of time. If you like fairytales, then this is the true story for you! A king, a queen, and a beautiful young orphan who becomes a heroine. Together, Esther and her cousin are given a huge opportunity to save their people. God knows what He is doing, and He created us "for such a time as this." We each have a special purpose. We have a very special episode tonight. It's one of my favorite weekends of the year. We get to focus on and remember the incredible sacrifice that our Savior made for us. What a mixture of emotions. Intense sadness for the pain and agony he went through. It's really tough on my heart to hear that part. But imagine the JOY on Sunday. He is RISEN! We are reading the following: Luke 22:1-6, Matthew 26:17-29, Luke 22:31-71, Luke 23, Luke 24:1-12, Matthew 28:11-15, Luke 24:13-49, Mark 16:19-20, and John 21:25. Nehemiah was known for his strong faith in God and his devotion to his Jewish heritage. When he heard of the damage in Jerusalem, he was very concerned about the Jewish people and the city itself. The world's first murder. Is anyone else shocked at how soon this happened? I certainly am. How much grief Adam and Eve must have felt. In recognition of the New Year, I wanted to tell a story about new beginnings. This is the story of one of the most powerful transformations in the Bible. Saul of Tarsus was born somewhere between 5 BC and 5 AD. He walked this earth the same time as Jesus, but never met him in person, and went on to become a well-known Pharisee. He mercilessly persecuted followers of Jesus, until a dramatic confrontation with God changed his life forever. We are reading Acts 8 and 9. I tried to make the parts equal in length, but as you can see, I was not successful. Some of the stories in part 2 are longer. And the last story finishes it off with a bang!
